In secondary school, hard work in almost any direction gets you somewhere. The A Levels are different. We are giving you a map, so the effort you were always going to put in lands where it counts. Most students find this direction through trial and error over their first few months of JC. January, in the weeks before JC1 begins, is the ideal time to build it. No new syllabus is being pushed at you and no exam is close. It is a calm window to learn how General Paper and Economics really work, so you arrive in JC clear, confident and pointed in the right direction.
These lessons target the shifts that separate secondary school from the A Levels, the ones most students only discover months in. Get them right in January and your whole JC1 changes.
Most students misread what an A Level question is actually asking. You learn to decode the real question behind the words, in both General Paper and Economics, so you answer what is set rather than what you assumed.
Secondary school essays list points. A Level essays build a case that goes somewhere. You learn the architecture once, premises, logical steps, anticipated objections, an earned conclusion, and use it in every essay after.
Examples are evidence, not decoration. You learn to make each one do real work for your argument, whether it is a pop culture reference in GP or a case study in Economics.
The secondary school bar is not the A Level bar. You get calibrated to the right standard before JC even starts, so you are not spending first term slowly discovering it.

Four lessons in General Paper and four in Economics, each two hours, run over the weeks before JC1. The Economics track meets on Saturday afternoons and the General Paper track on Friday evenings, with the exact dates confirmed on registration.
General Paper is the thinking subject. It tests whether you can reason clearly about complex issues, build arguments that hold nuance, and articulate a position without becoming vague. Economics sounds like a maths subject, but it is really a way of understanding human behaviour using numbers. Both tracks teach the same underlying skill: how to think, and how to show it on paper.
Every lesson is two hours, with materials included. Take one track or both, whichever fits the subjects you are carrying into JC.
The Economics materials come with the programme, every one written by Mr Toh, the same person who wrote the H1 and H2 TYS answer keys published by SAP and sold at Popular. These are printed and bound, not photocopies and not last-minute PDFs, and they carry straight into your JC years.

The Sec 4 to JC1 Headstart is run by ETG's tutors, the Economics track by an ETG economics tutor and the General Paper track by ETG's GP team, all working from the ETG method and the materials written by our founder, Mr Eugene Toh.

We publish whole cohort figures rather than cherry picked top scorers.
