The hidden assumption

The question treats a 'role' as a unit that can be wholly taken over, when most roles are bundles of tasks, and AI excels at some tasks while leaving the judgement, accountability and human contact that define the role.

Option A · Conditions: tasks replaced, roles seldom

Artificial intelligence is replacing human tasks rapidly and human roles only rarely, because most jobs are bundles in which AI absorbs the routine and predictable parts while the judgement, accountability and human relationship at the core remain stubbornly human, so the displacement is real but the wholesale replacement the question implies is not.

Strongest counter & rebuttal

Capabilities once thought safely human, writing, diagnosis, creative drafting, have fallen quickly, so the comforting claim that judgement and creativity are reserved for people looks less secure each year, and an honest essay cannot bank on today's limits holding. This deserves real weight. But even rapid capability gains keep crashing into the same wall: a machine can do the task, yet someone must still want the outcome, authorise it and answer for it, and that someone has so far remained human, which is why roles erode at the edges while their accountable core persists.

Artificial intelligence is replacing human tasks extensively and accelerating, but it is replacing whole human roles only at the margins, because the parts of a role that involve responsibility, moral choice and human relationship have not transferred to the machine; the displacement is therefore large and disruptive without being the total replacement the question invites us to imagine.

Strongest counter & rebuttal

If a rival firm or country adopts AI and undercuts everyone else, the choice to keep humans becomes a choice to lose, so in practice market logic can make replacement feel as forced as any natural law, and pretending it is freely chosen can sound naive. This is a real constraint. But constraint is not inevitability: tax, regulation, labour standards and coordinated policy can change the incentives that make replacement rational, which is exactly what regulation and reskilling schemes attempt, so the pressure is powerful yet still, at bottom, a set of human-made conditions we can alter.
