A single career for life remains realistic in fields where the core skill is human, regulated or slow-changing, but it is increasingly unrealistic in fields exposed to automation, so the honest answer is that technology is splitting the workforce into careers that endure and careers that must be repeatedly rebuilt.
Automation panics recur every generation, from the Luddites to the 1960s 'automation crisis', and each time new jobs emerged and many careers endured, so the confident claim that this time technology ends the lifelong career may again be overstated. This is a real corrective to techno-fatalism. But the past survival of careers does not guarantee the next wave behaves the same way, and the speed of AI adoption is compressing the adjustment time that earlier transitions enjoyed, so caution about the forecast is not the same as confidence in the single career.

Both are defensible: A is the calibrated mainstream line; B is the premise-rejecting move that reads as more analytical if the structure-versus-technology distinction holds.
