Careers at ETG and GPA

Nineteen years in, we still hire like it is day one.

Two sister companies. Two subjects. One conviction: tuition in Singapore can be done substantially better than the industry usually does it. If you want to help prove that, read on. This page will also tell you, honestly, if you should not.

The work

The subject is the vehicle. The student is the work.

At GPA: confidence compounds.

When a Primary 3 child who has been struggling with Math starts getting answers right, something larger than Math shifts. She raises her hand more. She volunteers answers in other subjects. She starts believing she belongs with the harder questions. Helping a young child do better at Math is really about giving them confidence that they can do better at things in general, and that confidence carries into every classroom they ever sit in. The Math is the vehicle.

At ETG: an A in Economics opens doors.

A Level Economics is one of the highest leverage grades on a Singapore university application. We have watched students walk in weak across the board and walk out with options, courses, faculties and universities that were closed to them a year earlier. The Economics is the vehicle.

If reading that did nothing for you, you can stop here. Everything below assumes it did something.

The story

Built by two people who are still here.

Mr Toh started teaching A Level Economics in 2007 and has put nineteen consecutive cohorts through the A Levels. He is the author of the H1 and H2 A Level Economics TYS answer keys and 50 Model Essays, published through SAP and Shing Lee and sold at Popular. Mrs Toh left MOE teaching to build Genius Plus Academy, and has authored more than a hundred proprietary Math materials for Primary and Secondary students.

Here is the part that should interest you if you are ambitious. The JC student population in Singapore is shrinking. Our student numbers are growing. Taking share in a contracting market is harder, rarer and more meaningful than growing with the tide. That is the team you would be joining.

We are not a chain. We are not a franchise. We are not interested in becoming one. The buildings have changed. The systems have changed. The two founders have not.

The honest section

Read this part twice.

Most careers pages are written to attract everyone. This one is written to attract the right people. Six things you should know before you email us:

1

You work two metres from the founders.

Not three layers of management away. Mr Toh and Mrs Toh sit near you, eat lunch with you, and are visibly part of fixing things when they go wrong. If you prefer anonymity, this will feel like a lot.

2

The numbers are discussed in front of you.

The Tuesday company meeting is open to everyone on duty. Real metrics, real decisions, real debates. You will leave here knowing how a business actually runs, even if you never run one.

3

AI fluency is an expectation, not a perk.

Every member of this team is expected to become fluent with AI tools as part of the job. An admin who masters AI is two to three times more effective than one who does not, and the gap compounds. Staff who treat AI as someone else's thing will watch their roles shrink. Staff who master it multiply their impact, and leave here more employable than they arrived.

4

We measure ourselves against the best, not the average.

We borrow John Wooden's phrase, competitive greatness: being at your best when your best is required. Crashcourse weekends, exam season, the worried parent at the front desk. That is when we expect to be sharpest.

5

We do not carry deadweight.

We cover for each other in real moments, sickness, leave, the bad week, without hesitation. What we do not do is quietly compensate for someone who will not pull their weight. Good people should not carry that cost, and here they do not.

6

Mistakes are surfaced, not hidden.

When something goes wrong we ask what happened, why, how we fix it and how we prevent it. We call out the matter, not the person. It is why people here feel safe owning their mistakes, and why we get better every week.

The other half of the deal

What working here does for you.

Breadth your CV could not buy. In a small company you touch things that would be entire departments elsewhere: lead funnels, parent diplomacy, AI tools, marketing, training design, event logistics. People who leave us after eighteen months routinely go on to roles their Day 1 CV would not have qualified them for.

You see the whole machine. Pricing, hiring, retention, marketing, product, strategy. Most people work for a decade without seeing it. Here you see it in your first month.

You leave AI fluent. Whatever you do next, this will be part of it. We will make sure you are ahead of the curve, not behind it.

You are seen. The quiet fix nobody asked for, the shift nobody wanted, the parent who left the call feeling heard. We notice. Admin of the Quarter, premium team meals at places like Colony at The Ritz-Carlton, the year-end retreat, your birthday off. Not a benefits package. A way of saying we noticed.

People you respect. The colleague next to you is not coasting. That is worth more over a career than a slightly higher salary somewhere anonymous.

Fair pay, on time, every time. With a clear ladder, a 13th month bonus and performance bonuses for full-timers. We are not the highest paying tuition company in Singapore. We do not compete on that. We compete on everything else on this list.

Self-selection

Do not apply if.

You want a job where you do the assigned scope and wait out the clock.

You think "that is not my job" is a complete sentence.

You treat AI as a fad you are hoping will pass.

You need distance from accountability, or from the people you answer to.

You are okay with okay. In a contracting market, okay is a slow defeat, and we are not interested in it.

If that list read like a relief rather than a warning, we should talk.

Open tracks

Where you might fit.

Card A

Economics Tutors (ETG)

Part-time and freelance

Start with a few 1 to 1 students weekly. Strong tutors progress to group classes, and a full-time pathway exists for the exceptional. One non-negotiable: an Economics degree from a good, established university. We teach the subject at the highest level in the country and the bar starts there.

Rates discussed individually.

Card B

Math Tutors (GPA)

Full-time

Enter as Senior Associate Tutor: $3,500 to $4,500 monthly, with a ladder that runs to $5,400 and beyond at Senior Tutor, and Principal Tutor above that. 18 to 22 teaching hours a week plus curriculum, publications and content work. Choose a standard 5-day week or a compressed 4-day week.

Requirement: a related degree or genuine teaching experience.

Card C

Math Tutors (GPA)

Freelance

1 to 1 students and small group classes across Primary and Secondary levels. Requirement: a related degree or genuine teaching experience.

Rates discussed individually.

Card D

Admin Executive (ETG and GPA)

Part-time and full-time

Part-time: $12 per hour during training, $13 to $15 after, with a real tier ladder: Administrator, Senior, Chief, Deputy Head. Built for A Level leavers and university students. A 4 to 18 month season with us is a feature, not a bug: we designed the whole system around it, and you will be trained properly from day one.

Full-time: Student Experience Executive, $2,700 to $3,200 monthly. Head of Administration, $3,200 to $3,800. 13th month bonus, performance bonus, Prudential insurance on confirmation, birthday off, retreat eligibility.

The process

We respect your time. We expect the same.

Part-time admin

A 30 minute interview, then a paid 5 hour work trial the same day. Decision within 48 hours.

Full-time admin

An interview, then a paid full-day work trial. If the trial goes well, an offer within 24 hours.

Tutors

A short written test and a paid mini-teach, so we see you teach and you see how we run.

Every candidate gets an answer. We do not ghost people. A small tuition community means word travels, and more importantly, it is the decent thing to do.

One email. Written by you.

Send your CV to eugene@tuitiongenius.com with a short note answering three things: why this work, why us, and when you can start.

Write the note yourself. We use AI more deeply than almost any company you have met, which is exactly why we can tell when you did not.
